Manalapan Man Charged With Possession & Distribution Of Child Pornography

FREEHOLD – A Manalapan man was arrested and charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. The arrest, which took place on Friday, was the result of a three-month investigation, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Angelo Curato, 25, of Eliot Road in Manalapan, is charged with one count of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Possession of Child Pornography and one count of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Distribution of Child Pornography.

Curato was arrested and charged Friday, June 2nd, following an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit. The charges are the result of a forensic examination of Curato’s computer which revealed multiple items of child pornography in a shared peer-to-peer file-sharing program folder. Peer-to-peer file-sharing allows an online user to share files with other individual users through peer-to-peer file-sharing software.

If convicted of the second degree offense of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Curato faces a sentence of five to ten years in prison.

If convicted of the third degree charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Curato faces a sentence of three to five years in prison.

The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Margaret Koping.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
